Ecological' agriculture – (organic, biological) - the system of farming, in which application of the synthetic mineral fertilizers, pesticides, regulators of growth and synthetic additives is excluded. This agriculture is characterized by production in the closed cycle: the soil – plant – animal, with maintenance of a large self - sufficiency. It is treated more as a way of life in symbiosis with the nature, than as a system of production. The ecological aims predominate over the economic ones.

Tillage of plants
The proper crop rotation taking into account the soil structure improving plants and augmenting the content of organic material in the soil (e.g. perennial legumes), cover of the soil surface with the vegetation by possibly a longest period in a year ( applying of companion crops, catch crops and after-crops), organic fertilization with fertilizers produced on the farm (compost, manure, green fertilizers) permitting to keep fertility of the soil, fertilization with minerals is limited to rocky flour (included in the Council Regulation 834/2007), mechanical weeding without chemical crop protection products, application of the agricultural science methods of combat diseases, pests ( a suitable succession and neighbourhood of plants), application of the biological preparations and plant extracts, application of organic seeds and sowable material.

Animals husbandry
Behaviour of animals health and welfare, the way of keeping – a suitable surface area of livestock housing, access to paddocks and pastures, mMaximum headage- 1.5 PAD/ ha should not be exceeded, the nourishment of animals based on usage of feeds produced with organic methods, applying alophathic veterinary medicines and antibiotics is forbidden. In special cases agreed with the certification body use of above medicines for treatment of animals is admitted on responsibility of a doctor of veterinary.

Application admitted for
Crops protection products qualified for application in organic agriculture, fertilizers and the soil improvement agents qualified for application in organic farming, seeds and sowable material as well as vegetative reproductive material produced with organic methods.

Application prohibited for
Synthetic means of plant protection and chemical fertilizers, seed dressings, artificial concentrates, genetically modified organisms (GMO),
industrial fodders, ionizing radiation.

Solely the application of organic certified raw materials coming from organic farms is admitted.

How to become an organic farmer?
The manufacturer willing to convert his production to organic production methods is obliged to notify about such activity to the certification body authorized by the Minister of Agriculture an Rural Development.

The submission of application means that from this moment you have begun conversion of your production to organic ecological methods of husbanding in compliance with the Act on organic agriculture of 20th April, 2004 and the Council Regulation No 834/2007 and give access to  farm for inspection.

The conversion period lasts at least 2 years, and in case of many years' tillages that is orchards of as well as berry plantation 3 years.

In the above mentioned periods the farm is subject to inspection at least once a year, in a date agreed with the owner of farm for inspection conducted from the point of view of implementation of the programme for the conversion of the farm to production with organic methods. Inspection is conducted on farms both in the conversion period as well on farms already holding certificate (wrong opinions that lifelong certificate is granted should be eliminated). The COBICO Certification Office in the conversion period as well as for those holding certificate can order the execution of casual, free of charge inspection in the above mentioned scope, without notification the farm owner.

To get the certificate of organic farming one should:
Notify on the farm access (production unit) to system of organic farming.
Submit application for certification of organic farm with attachments:  copy of an extract of the land and buildings register, copy of the register map as well as copy of a lease contract – if concerns. The application form, description of production unit as well as application of activity in organic farming can be obtained from the Certification Body, the Agricultural Consulting Centres as well as on the website of the Body. On the basis of the set of documents submitted in the Certification Body and payment for performance of inspection, registration of the farm in the system of organic farming and issuing of the certificate indispensable for the Agricultural-Environmental Programme takes place.
The farmer in moment of submission of application to Certification Body pays a preliminary fee. The second part of the fee the farmer owner pays before inspection on his farm. The amount of payment depends on a size of the inspected farm.

Organic farmer's duties:
Check the farm to yearly inspection by the Certification Body and husbanding on accordance with the rules of organic farming.

Profits resulting from establishing of organic farm
Getting of a trade mark "product of organic farming”.
The right to marketing of the organic farming products at higher prices with regard to their quality.
Supplementary payments to the arable land.
